As normal a great time was had by all.
The weekend started on the Friday evening. After settling into our
chalets, we took a walk to the restaurant. Not having to cook is always
good for me!
The evening was a slow starter , as people were still coming straight
from work to get here. When they did though it was standing room only.
We could only last until 2am. We had planned to get up early for
breakfast and start the round of lessons.
This years main visiting teachers were
Andrew
Cuerden and
Hanna Haarala.
They are Ballroom and Latin Champions. After appearing in 'Strictly come
dancing' last year, they have been in great demand. We were lucky enough
to have them teach us what they know. Also sharing his knowledge with us
mere mortals was Lee Hunter of Absolute Salsa. Oh what fun we had! He
has a great way of teaching and keeping us in stitches at the same time.
On the shows, we had two mambo exhibitions, and a Paso Doble from
Andrew and Hanna. Its always great to sit back and watch others do their
thing!
After quite a few lessons we were starting to flag! So back to the
chalet for a cat nap!
That evening was a black tie and gown event. It was nice to be able to
dress up, and not just dance in my normal combats! To start the evening
we had a chance to put into practise what we had learnt in the Ballroom
lessons. Oh what fun! There's a big difference in Salsa and the Waltz!
A big well done to our friend Clive, for winning the best dressed guy
comp. He wore his fathers 50 year old tails and looked fantastic!
The Shows went down very well also. Lee and Shelly put on a great
routine as per norm. Andrew and Hanna showed us how to do the Cha Cha
and Rumba the professional way! We just looked on in ore.
We actually managed to stay up to 3am! Give us a medal! The next morning
was a nightmare trying to get up out of bed. Age has crept up on me!
After breakfast, ourselves and a number of friends took a walk down to
the beach. It was not the hottest of days, and the wind was getting up a
little, but somebody thought it would be good fun to have a go at Tai
Chi! Our good friend Phil had practised this form for quite a while, so
he put us through our paces . I can't say everyone took it seriously! So
there we were on the beach , in the wind........
Sunday brought more great lessons, more food, more cat naps!
The evening again was started off with practise of the Ballroom and
Latin. Its a good job really, as we went in for the competition! Never
one to shy away from the comps, we headed to the dance floor and
attempted to dance the Waltz, the Cha Cha and the Rumba. What a great
surprise though when we came second place. The best bit was the tiara
that I was given. I just need to find an occasion to wear it!
The entertainment was first class. They did a take on 'Strictly come
dancing'. They had the judges, the dancers and Bruce Forsyth! Well done.
Another 3am finish, but what the heck, we had a great time as normal and
best of all we had a fantastic time with our friends.
Try it for yourself
